Why Ride with GPS?
Most cyclists use either a Garmin or Wahoo computer. However, routes can't be easily downloaded from the Garmin route App (Garmin Connect) to a Wahoo device, or from the Wahoo App (Elemnt) to a Garmin device. It is possible to download and move GPX or FIT files around to do that, but the process may not transfer 'turn-by-turn' directions associated with the original route.
Ride with GPS (RWGPS) enables a complete route (including 'turn-by-turn' directions), to be downloaded to Garmin or Wahoo devices, by any user with a basic (free) RWGPS account.
GPX or FIT file download is also available from RWGPS for any user who wishes to copy and load a SWCC Route to their own route App.

Route Planner / Ride leader
There are two ways to select a route from the SWCC Route Library:
To use a route from the SWCC Route Library for a Club Ride (and after checking one.network for potential road closures), simply copy and paste the web address of your chosen RWGPS route (e.g. https://ridewithgps.com/routes/48114635) in to the Forum Event you have created for the Ride. When saved in to the Forum, this will expand to show the route map with two clickable buttons - 'View Full Version' and 'Send to Device'.
A rider with a basic RWGPS account who has also authorised a link between RWGPS and their device, can choose to 'Pin' this Route to their own account by clicking 'Send to Device'. The route will be downloaded to their device when it is next synchronised.
See the 'Riders' section below for how to set this up.
If required, GPX or FIT file unload is available from the 'View Full Version' route display in RWGPS.
If you lead a Club Ride on a SWCC Route and find there are problems or challenges with it, please inform the Ride Lead Co-ordinator who can amend the route, update associated notes, or remove it from the Library.
Of course, it isn't mandatory to use a route from the SWCC Route Library for a Club Ride. If you create a new and exciting route of your own which should be added to the Library, please let our Ride Lead Co-ordinator know, together with a link to your route and any notes to be attached to it (e.g. problem roads, cycle paths used etc).
- Open the SWCC Café Map and click on the coffee cup for your chosen Café. If the information displayed includes a 'Routes' section, then that link will display only the set of routes which visit that Café.
- Click on SWCC Route Library to display the full list of routes, which can then be filtered by Café name, direction, distance or elevation.

RIDERS
To download a SWCC Route from the Library to your device:
Initial Set-up
Download a Route
If you don't wish to create your own RWGPS account then download a GPX or FIT file from the full route in RWGPS and upload that to your own route App. Note that the route may not include 'turn-by-turn' directions.
Initial Set-up
- Create a basic (free) account on Ride with GPS
- Access RWGPS Settings to amend your privacy defaults and zones as required (your ride data will be transferred to RWGPS)
- Authorise your App (e.g. Garmin Connect or Wahoo Elemnt) to enable transfer between RWGPS and your device. The process is similar to Strava connection authorisation which allows ride data to be stored in Strava automatically from your device
Download a Route
- To download a SWCC Route to your personal RWGPS account click 'Send to Device' from a posted Forum Event, or click the 'Pin' button whilst viewing the full route in RWGPS. The list of your 'Pinned' routes can be displayed from your RWGPS Dashboard. A 'Pinned' route is a pointer to a route created by another RWGPS user (in our case Swan_Wheelers_CC)
- Next time you synchronise your Garmin or Wahoo device, the route will be loaded, complete with 'turn-by-turn' directions. For Wahoo the route will be marked with an asterisk
If you don't wish to create your own RWGPS account then download a GPX or FIT file from the full route in RWGPS and upload that to your own route App. Note that the route may not include 'turn-by-turn' directions.
